Reports

Tauranga Boys’ College posts school reports home to all parents/caregivers three times each year.

Term 1:         Interim Reports on how all students have settled down to work are posted out in late March. All parents are invited to attend Parent-Teacher interviews as part of this report process.

Term 2:         Mid-year reports for all Senior students (Years 11-13) focussing on achievement during the first half of the school year are posted out to parents by the end of week 9. Parents are invited to attend Parent-Teacher interviews as part of this report process.

Term 3:         Mid-year reports for all Years 9 and 10 students focussing on achievement during the first half of the school year are posted out to parents by the end of week 2. Parents are invited to attend Parent-Teacher interviews as part of this report process

Term 4:         End-of-year reports for all Years 11-13 students are posted out to parents by the end of week 4. End-of-year reports for all Year 9 and 10 students are handed out after Junior Awards presentation on the last day of the school year. 

Understanding Assessment Information in Tauranga Boys’ College Reports 

The following is provided to clarify the assessment information displayed in our reports: 

Not Submitted: The student has failed to hand in the assessment
Not Achieved:The student is still working towards the standard expected of students in the year group.
Achieved: The student is achieving at the standard expected of students in the year group.
Achieved with Merit: The student is achieving above the standard expected of students in the year group.
Achieved with Excellence: The student is achieving at a level exceeding the standard expected of students in the year group.

Understanding Student Attitudes and Behaviours Information in Tauranga Boys’ College Reports 

Behaviour in Class and Effort in Class:
These relate to how well a student behaves in class, and the degree of enthusiasm and commitment the student applies to his work.  There are 5 descriptors:

Excellent: The student performs well above the expected level.
Good: The student performs above the expected level.
Satisfactory: The student performs at the expected level.
Poor: The student performs below the expected level.  This might cause some concerns if performance continues at this level.
Of Concern: The student performs well below the expected level, and there are concerns related to the impact this is having on his learning.

Homework:
This relates to how well a student completes out-of-class tasks.  There are 5 descriptors:

Excellent: The student performs well above the expected level.
Good: The student performs above the expected level.
Satisfactory: The student performs at an expected level.
Of Concern: The student performs below the expected level, and this is having some impact on his learning.
Not Applicable: Homework is not usually set for this course.

Levels of the New Zealand Curriculum

The New Zealand Curriculum for each subject is divided into 8 levels of achievement students Year 1 to 13.  The following diagram indicates approximate parallels between levels of achievement and year level.  Although it is not expected that all students of the same age will be achieving at the same level at the same time, most students in Years 9 and 10 are expected to be working towards Level 5 of the curriculum.  The curriculum levels assist teachers to identify a student’s progressive development, and therefore to provide the most appropriate programmes.
