People
There is a great respect and appreciation of cultural diversity. The School is warm and welcoming to new students, with no one cultural group dominating. The student diversity in our classrooms reflects the nature of our local community. We are giving students opportunities to mix with different types of people from different backgrounds, thereby broadening their outlook.
The cultural background of staff reflects the diversity similar to the student body. It is important that the students see role models of success with whom they can identify. Differences in culture are celebrated and never more so than in the preparation for our Maori students in their kapahaka activities under the watchful eyes of community leaders. The students practice traditional songs and dances of their people.
A special relationship with Hitachi city north of Tokyo means a party from Tauranga Boys' College annually spends time in that city, and in exchange hosting Japanese students. Many exchange students from around the World, find they come to learn about life in New Zealand, but in addition find a quite unexpected richness of international life. Tauranga Boys' College is a microcosm of the global village of the 21st century, its students have much to teach the world about living together in peace. |
