Senior Examinations

With the completion of the winter sports season for most sporting codes and the end of most cultural commitments, it is timely and important that the focus for our senior boys is now firmly on the senior examinations.
These examinations begin Thursday 17th, continuing through until Thursday 24th September. These exams are essential in boys’ preparation for the NCEA Externals that begin on the 6th of November. They provide a valuable opportunity for boys to assess how well prepared they are for these exams and where they need to place their focus in the remaining weeks to optimise their success in the NCEA Examinations. The exams will sign- post clearly how your son is progressing to achieve his academic goals.
Recently all senior boys were given a printout from their Form Teacher, of the NCEA Internal Credits achieved to date. They will have had the opportunity to have a brief discussion with the Form Teacher about their achievement to date and what they require to gain their desired academic goals.
This information provides a clear picture of the number of Credits they need to achieve in the remaining Internal Achievement Standards and External Achievement Standards they will sit at the end of the year.
It is essential boys do their best in the upcoming school examinations because if, for some reason such as illness, your son is unable to sit the External NCEA exams, these internal exams will be used to provide a “Derived Grade” that would then be used to apply for a final grade in the Achievement Standard.
The exam timetable has been distributed to all students and is available on our website should it be required. I would encourage you to ensure your son prepares thoroughly in the short time ahead, and that he is organised and on time for all of the assessments.
During this time most Years 11, 12 and 13 students will have Study Leave from Wednesday 17th through until Thursday 24th.
The two Year 10 Accelerate Classes have exam leave from Monday 21st to Wednesday 23rd September.
Parents of boys who do not have study leave will be notified of the programme of achievement support provided for them. These boys will be those who have a small number or no NCEA external assessments. When your son does not have an examination he should be studying for the next examination or working on internal assessment tasks.
Those boys with a number of Internal Assessments subjects are expected and encouraged to come into the college to work on their internally assessed work: for example with Art and Technology projects, when they do not have an exam.
PLEASE NOTE: Afternoon Exams are scheduled to finish at 4.15pm
NB: Friday 25th September is a normal school day and all boys are expected to attend school on that
day.
