WELCOME TO CRICKET AT TAURANGA BOYS' COLLEGE
Tauranga Boys’ College Cricket aims to offer all students the opportunity to play cricket at a level that they will enjoy and that will challenge them. Tauranga Boys’ College has a history of excellent performance at 1st XI level. At the end of 2022 our 1st XI finished in 2nd place at the Gillette Cup National Secondary School tournament, an outstanding achievement. Prior to that, we last won the Gillette Cup in 2005 and have placed third on four occasions since then. We have also made the final of the Super 8 Cricket tournament in five of the past seven years, being crowned champions in 2022 and 2023. Our current 1st XI is once again in the final of the ND Gillette Cup qualification process. The 1st XI play St Paul’s Collegiate on November 1st - a win would see them make the Gillette Cup finals at Lincoln at the end of the school year.
High performance aside, cricket is a great medium for our boys to be physically active, develop their cricketing ability, learn social skills from being a part of a team, and to develop values such as integrity, commitment and perseverance. It is very important to us that we help to develop ‘good men’ as well as ‘good cricketers’.

COMPETITIONS
One of the big benefits of playing cricket for TBC is that there is a clear pathway from College Grade cricket right through to BOP Senior Men’s Cricket. Our teams and grades for the 2026/27 season are as follows:
- 1st XI - BOP Premier Men’s Competition
- 2nd XI - WBOP Division 2
- 3rd XI - WBOP Division 2
- 4th XI - WBOP Division 3
- Colts - WBOP Division 4
As per WBOP rules, no Year 9 student may play in WBOP Senior Men’s competitions.
FORMAT
Grade Format (35 Overs | 1:00 PM Start | Y9–13)
The College Grade format balances player ability with preference to ensure every student plays at an enjoyable and challenging level. For Term 4, all teams will start in a combined division before splitting into two distinct streams:
- College Cup (Division 5 – competitive, intended for future 1st/2nd XI players)
- College Plate (Division 6 – moderate ability)
To help us structure teams effectively for Term 4, the registration form will ask you to select your son's preferred playing level.
Player musters will be held over the coming weeks to gauge individual ability, ensuring your son is placed in the best team to support his growth and enjoyment.
UNIFORM
Players will receive a playing shirt and warm-up shirt for the new 2-year sponsorship cycle (2026–2028). Old shirts are retired due to sponsor updates.
- Cost: $50 each (Subsidised by the TBC Cricket Exec)
- Sizing: We recommend ordering a larger size to allow for growth (shirts available for purchase at the beginning of the 2027/28 season).
- PE Use: Both tops can also be used in PE lessons in place of the normal TBC PE top
FEE STRUCTURE
College Grade Fees are yet to be finalised but will be around $230 for a full year (both Term 4 2026 and Term 1 2027). WBOP Senior fees range from $240 to $260.
You will not be charged a fee when you register your son via PlayHQ. A fee will be added to your son’s TBC account nearer to the start of the season. If there are any issues with payment of fees, please let me know or contact the school office.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE - COACHES/MANAGERS
We rely heavily on parent support to make our cricket season possible! We are currently looking for volunteer Coaches and Managers. Game-day coaching simply involves taking charge of a team on Saturdays, though midweek coaching options are also available if you’re interested. Please get in touch if you're able to help out this season.
