At the core is a curriculum that promotes boys’ learning. Systems and structures are used to form a competitive academic environment where success is championed. Our broad curriculum choice enhances individual achievement and promotes the skills and knowledge that young men will need in a 21st Century environment.

Our staff are committed to excellence. Our highly qualified teaching staff are leaders in their fields, and as professionals, are proactive in staying up to date with the latest research on teaching and learning. They understand how boys learn best and what is ‘Best for Boys’. Innovative teaching practice and ICT integration enable our teachers to deliver lessons geared for boys’ learning.

Our students regularly lead the region in scholastic achievement, particularly in the National Scholarship Examinations. We also maintain a strong performance compared to similar boys’ schools. We offer NCEA at all levels. We ensure a rigorous NCEA qualification standard is set and maintained. Our ‘Enrichment’, ‘Learning Support’ and ‘Accelerated Learning’ programmes ensure that the school meets and caters to the needs of all our boys.

Tauranga Boys' College follows the general framework of the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), which specifies eight learning areas: English, the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Languages, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences and Technology.

The learning associated with each area is part of a broad, general education and lays a foundation for later specialisation.

Year 11 students (NCEA Level 1) must study English, Mathematics, at least one Science, and three other subjects.

Year 12 & 13 students study six subjects - English and Mathematics are recommended.
